Who We Are
Santa Cruz Actors’ Theatre was founded in 1985
by Abby Goss, Rod Wilkerson and Barbara Zollinger. Over the course of
nearly 20 years,
this theater has become the leading producer of new plays on the Central
Coast, and an important ‘on-the-job’ training ground for people
interested all aspects of the theater.
Actors' Theatre provides resources for
theater artists to explore their creativities and develop their crafts,
presents new and established works by local, national, and international
authors, cultivates and maintains audiences for the theatrical arts, and
collaborates and partners with other groups to create a stronger
presence for theater. Here are some of the services Actors'
Theatre provides to the Santa Cruz County theatrical community:
 |
Winners
of the Full-Length Play Contest are presented either as
staged readings or workshop productions, with a possibility
of a later full production. |
 |
Each
year we hold a Ten-Minute Play Contest, open to California
residents. Winning plays receive full production every January in
our sellout Ten-Minute Play Festival. |
 |
Our
popular annual Fall fundraiser, the all-day Improvathon,
brings together new and seasoned acting talent who find sponsors,
form improv teams, receive free improv classes from top-notch
instructors, then ‘strut their stuff’ on the stage of
Actors’ Theatre. |
 |
As a sponsor
of umbrella groups, Actors’ Theatre has made it possible for
many local production companies to obtain non-profit status.
Current umbrella groups include: Um...Gee...Um Improv
Troupe, and Pisces Moon Productions. |
 |
Frequent
workshops are offered at the theater in improvisation
and solo performance through the Fun Institute. Call
427-4008 for a full schedule or visit them on-line at

Actors’
Theatre is available to local and traveling production
companies as a performance space. Our reasonable rental rates
have encouraged scores of groups to bring theatrical, musical, and
dance works to the Santa Cruz County public. Call (831)
